UNESCO World Heritage Site Tour Overview

UNESCO World Heritage Site Tour commences with your arrival in Kathmandu. The 9-day trip begins with the cultural tour of Kathmandu valley and its historical cities namely Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur cities. Located on the foothills of Central Nepal, Kathmandu valley remains the historical and cultural hub of Nepal. Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square are the major UNESCO designated heritage sites you’ll get to visit inside Kathmandu.

Afterward, the tour advances southward to the historical region of Lumbini. Located in Kapilvastu district, Lumbini boasts the birth site of Gautam Buddha, Mayadevi Temple, and numerous cultural sites. The iron pillar at Mayadevi Temple site erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century remains the highlight of this tour.

The next you’ll drive 169km north to the touristic city of Pokhara. An ultimate getaway, Pokhara boasts few of the UNESCO designated sites along with adventure-filled activities such as paragliding, caving, cycling, boating, and zip-lining etc. You’ll indulge in a complete day tour of the Pokhara city and visit Mahendra Cave, Peace Stupa, Phewa Lake, Bindhyabasini Temple, and few other sites with the pristine sight of Annapurna (8091m) and Machhapuchhre (6997m) in the background. Day 1
Arrive in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, one of our representatives will warmly receive you at Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your hotel. After checking in, you’ll meet your tour guide and discuss the schedule of the tour. In the evening, you can take a stroll to the local markets and streets. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2
Kathmandu World Heritage Sites visit
After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on the first-day tour of Kathmandu valley. The sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu valley includes visiting some of the wondrous UNESCO World Heritage Sites; namely, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, and Swayambhunath. The historical palaces in the Kathmandu Durbar Square date over 700 years, which, now, have been turned into museums. Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are two major Buddhist sites in Kathmandu which are revered by thousands of devotees. Pashupatinath is another site of major interest and attracts thousands of Hindus from all around the world. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 3
Patan/Bhaktapur World Heritage Sites Visit
Today, you’ll embark on the tour of neighboring cities of Patan and Bhaktapur. Former royal kingdoms of Nepal, Patan and Bhaktapur boasts numerous temples, stupas, and palaces. The tour first embarks to Bhaktapur city. The Bhaktapur Durbar Square comprises of a 55-windowed palace, Krishna temple, 5-storeyed temple, Taleju, and numerous temples dedicated to various deities. Afterward, you’ll advance towards Patan. You’ll get to visit the Patan Durbar Square and explore the temples like Krishna Mandir, Ashoka Temple, and the golden Temple. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 4
Drive from Kathmandu to Lumbini
Today, the tour moves southwest to the historical city of Lumbini. Lying 265km southwest of Kathmandu, it may take well over 8 hours to reach Lumbini. The drive passes through the lushly tropical forests of Chitwan, colorful Terai towns, and massive rice fields. Lying close to the Indian border, the lifestyle and culture of the region are mostly influenced by its southern counterpart. Overnight in Lumbini. Lumbini Sightseeing
Lumbini is the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage site in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Popular for being known as the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, every year thousands of devotees visit the site to pay their homage. Mayadevi temple is one of the popular tourist landmarks in the area. It describes the exact birth site of Gautam Buddha. The Mayadevi pond and sacred Bodhi tree are other highlights of the area. Another popular tourist attraction in the area is the Ashoka Pillar built by Emperor Ashoka in 3rd BCE. The numerous Buddhist stupas built by many Buddhist nations of Asia are other highlights along with the Peace Pagoda.
Day 6
Drive from Lumbini to Pokhara
You’ll embark on an early road journey and head 169km north to the touristic city of Pokhara. It will take almost 5-6hr to reach Pokhara which goes through the lush tropical forest of Terai, narrow gorges, and along the massive river. Pokhara is a popular tourist destination which also serves as the gateway to the treks in Annapurna region. You’ll arrive at the lively Lakeside which boasts the scenery of the Phewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 7
Pokhara Sightseeing
Today, you’ll embark on a complete guided tour of the Pokhara city. Home of some of the most pristine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you’ll get to visit the Peace Pagoda situated atop a hill overlooking the entire Pokhara city. The touristic city also offers multiple adventure-filled activities where you can indulge in visiting Davis falls, Mahendra cave, Gurkha museum, and International Mountain Museum, boating at Phewa Lake, and cycling. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 8
Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Today, you’ll drive to Kathmandu. While leaving Pokhara, the magnanimous sights of Annapurna I (8091m) and Machhapuchhre (6997m) will bid you farewell. You’ll drive along the Trishuli River through the spiraling hills of Nepal back to Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you can head to the markets to shop gifts and souvenirs. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 9
Departure
Our representative will drop you off at the airport. You’ll leave approximately 2hr early to avoid any traffic congestion or delay. We hope you have had a memorable journey with and look forward to serving you again.
