One of the famous pilgrimage tours, the Khotang Halesi Pilgrimage Tour takes you into the homeland of the oldest Hill tribe of Nepal, “Kiratis”. Khotang Halesi Pilgrimage Tour Overview

The Khotang Halesi Pilgrimage tour spans 6 days and begins upon your arrival at Kathmandu. Accompanied by an experienced tour guide, you’ll embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu city. You’ll visit few scenic UNESCO World Heritage sites around Kathmandu; namely, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath. The tour moves eastward and heads directly to Halesi of Khotang district lying 225km east to Kathmandu.

The serpentine road goes through the colorful towns and villages of Eastern Nepal. Once at Halesi, you’ll visit the holy Halesi Mahadev Temple located in a discreet site under the hill at Halesi Bazaar. You’ll have to climb a small hill that opens a gateway to a large cave that preserves the age-old temple of Halesi Mahadev. The cave lies 67ft below the surface with the entrance shaped like a half-moon.

According to the folklore, Lord Shiva once hid inside the temple for 6000 years to elude from the sight of demon Bhasmasur.  After visiting the temple and the adjoining cave, you’ll explore the Halesi Bazaar before catching your commute back to Kathmandu. This tour can be undertaken anytime throughout the year; however, spring (Mar-Jun) and autumn (Sep-Nov) remain the two best seasons for visiting Halesi.

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu
A company representative will welcome you upon arriving at the Tribhuvan international Airport. As you exit the airport, the hustle and bustle of the Kathmandu City will welcome you. You head to the hotel and unpack your belongings. Later, you can explore the lively streets of Thamel. Overnight stay in Kathmandu
Day 2
Kathmandu Sightseeing
The tour begins with a scenic sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu city. Accompanied by an experienced tour guide, you’ll visit some of the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Sites namely Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. Inhabited by people from a varied religious background, the city is filled with historical and cultural monuments from different cultures. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 3
Drive from Kathmandu- Halesi
After early breakfast, you’ll embark on a road journey to the east of Kathmandu. The rather long drive will take you to the Halesi Bazaar at Khotang district. The journey spanning 225km may last 7-8 hours and it passes through the scenic hills, towns, and settlements; namely, Dhulikhel, Nepalthok, Khurkot, Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga, and Jayaram ghat. Halesi lies in the Sagarmatha zone and in the bazaar you can see lots of people. Overnight in Halesi.
Day 4
Halesi Mandir Visit & Exploration
Once at Halesi, you’ll begin the tour with the visit to the Halesi Mahadev temple. The millennia old temple sits inside a colossal cave. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple remains the most pious site for Kirats. The cave lies between two holy rivers Dudh Koshi to the right and Sun Koshi to the left. You’ll climb a small hill to access the 67ft deep cave to reach the temple. The temple is holy for 3 different religions namely Hinduism, Buddhism, and Kirat. The day-tour ends with the exploration of the colorful Halesi Bazaar. Overnight in Halesi.
Day 5
Drive back from Halesi – Kathmandu
Wake up and visit the Kailash forest that sits nearby the Halesi Cave. The forest is a quiet place to meditate and relax. Observe the Morning Prayer and rituals and then drive back to Kathmandu. You’ll retrace your path and drive the same way back to Kathmandu from Halesi Bazaar. The scenic drive will follow through the beautiful landscape of eastern Nepal. You’ll pass along the uneven hills, rivers, and green forests. Once at Kathmandu, you can choose to relax at the hotel or take a stroll around the market to shop souvenirs. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 6
We will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport in a private car so you can catch your flight back home. Goodbye and have a safe journey
