The far western region of Nepal is a traveler’s hub boasting countless areas which are yet to be explored. One of such places is the wildlife utopia, ‘Khaptad National Park’. Khaptad Trek explores this park which thrives in the desolate setting and quenches the thirst of those in search of a natural awakening. Feast your eyes on the lush vegetation, thriving wildlife and ultimately make a memory that lasts all eternity.
Khaptad Trek Itinerary
Arrive at Kathmandu and begin your journey by taking a short flight to Dhangadi. Dhangadi is a lively town in Terai, and there you can kill your boredom by visiting Johar Lake or doing some bird watching in Mohana. The off-road ride takes you to Bajhang and you can see that as we drive further the remoteness increases.
Bajhang is often called the gateway of Khaptad National Park. Interact with the locals here to learn their version of the life. Start your trek from Bajhang and walk through boulders and steep rocks to reach the Khaptad campsite. You can either set up your own tent or reside in an existing one.
Observe more than 500 species of plants and do some soul searching in Khaptad Lake. The serene ambiance around the lake along with the views of the lush greenery grant a blissful experience. After making a quick visit to the Khaptad Baba Ashram, we embark on a Bichpani camp. The trail goes through greenery and you’ll find the walk extremely satisfying.
We spend a night at the Bichpani camp and then head towards Silgadhi. Human settlements are clearly visible here and after tasting some local delicacies, we’ll head back to Dhangadi and ultimately to Kathmandu. After incorporating a quick visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Khaptad Trek ends with your departure from Nepal.
