Journeying to the Everest Base Camp in itself is a wonderful experience like no other. However, trekking the same route Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa took in their first conquest of Everest (8,848m) offers a remarkable thrill. The Jiri to EBC Trek is the trek that follows the trail through the lower Khumbu region and enters the glorious Sagarmatha National Park.

Further traversing along with the Sherpa villages like Tengboche and Dingboche. The trek concludes at the Everest Base Camp in a spectacular fashion. For those who wish to add a bit of flavor to their travel, the Jiri to EBC Trek provides everything an ideal trek should.

Jiri To EBC Trek Overview

Our Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek journey begins from Kathmandu as we drive to the hamlet of Jiri located at a distance of 185 kilometers. From Jiri, we head towards Bhandar. Through the lush green forest, the hilly trail heads to Sethe and continues to Junbesi. Continuing our ascending run, we make our way toward Nunthala.

Where the trail heads towards Khari Khola and then onto Paiya. The hamlet of Phakding is the next on our list from where we make our way towards Namche Bazar crossing the hamlets of Monjo and Jorsalle en route. Taking a day off at Namche, we pick up our trek ascending to the hamlet of Tengboche which is the home to the Tengboche Monastery.

Reaching Dingboche, we take another day to acclimatize before continuing through the Himalayan trail to reach Lobuche. Trekking along the Khumbu Glacier, the trek takes us to Gorakshep and then to the Everest Base Camp. After relishing the sights of the majestic Himalayas and the Khumbu Glacier, we return to Gorakshep.

We enjoy the stunning Himalayan sunrise from Kalapatthar on the next day before setting off towards the hamlet of Pheriche. Crossing over to the hamlet of Namche, we make our way to the town of Lukla ending our journey.

Itinerary


  • After touching down at Tribhuvan International Airport, our office representatives will receive you and drive you directly to the hotel. After freshening up from the day’s journey, you will be introduced to the guides and other members of the trek. With the activities of the day coming to a close you are free to explore the local region.

  • Today, we take some time off to not only fully prepare for the trip but also tour around the premium destinations spread around the valley. Beginning the journey, we head to the Swayambhunath stupa. Enjoying the amazing views of the valley, we make our way down to the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath. Taking a cultural turn, we make our way towards the Kathmandu Durbar Square where the medieval way of life shines through art and architecture. For the final part, we make our way to the monastery of Boudhanath.

  • The day begins early as we make our way out of valley heading towards Jiri. Through the winding bends of the Araniko Highway, we escape the massive hills of the valley heading towards vibrant rural hamlets. The drive continues along the banks of the stunning Sunkoshi River. As the journey moves closer to Jiri the hills slowly part to reveal enchanting views of the Himalayas.

  • Making our way out of the hamlet of Jiri the hilly trail quietly ascends through the lush green forests reaching the hamlet of Mali. Continuing the ascending run we make our way through the canyon towards the hamlet of Mahabir continuing on to Deurali. The final stretch of the trek takes us alongside Mani walls heading for Bhandar.

  • Continuing through the enchanting forests filled with pine and rhododendron trees we make exit the hamlet of Bhandar setting off through its terraced farmlands. Reaching the hamlet of Pekarnas, the journey takes on a steep ascent towards Kinja. After a brief rest at Kinja, we continue our ascending journey reaching the hamlet of Sethe.

  • The trail today follows a series of ascends and descends through the lush green forests stopping to rest at the vibrant hamlets. The ascending journey begins with the climb to Lamjura Pass (3530m) which takes about four hours. Over the Lamjura Pass (3530m), we begin our descent through fragrant forests filled with fir and hemlock trees. Later, we arrive at Junbesi situated on the banks of the Junbesi River.

  • The day begins early as we make our way through the vibrant forests filled with pine and fir trees. The rising hills give way to the Himalayas and, in the clearest of weather, the views of Mt. Everest (8,848m) adorns the horizon. Crossing the hamlet of Salleri, we make our way towards Ringmo village. The final stretch of the journey climbs through the steep Taksindu La Pass (3870m) heading towards Nunthala.

  • One of the shortest days of the trip, today, we make our way to Khari Khola. The journey begins with the pleasant views of Karyolung (6,511m), Kusum Khangkaru (6,367m), Gyachung Kang (7,952m) and Khumbila (5,761m) descending towards the Dudh Koshi River. The journey is a pleasant one crossing terraced farmlands descending to the hamlet of Khari Khola.

  • Continuing on the rural hilly trail, the journey edges closer to the classic EBC trail. Heading away from Khari Khola, we trek towards the hamlet of Bupsa. Descending through the mountain pass, the trail becomes more slippery reaching the hamlet of Paiya. The hamlet is our final step in the Jiri to EBC trek before it overlaps with the classic EBC Trek.

  • Heading out of the hamlet of Paiya the trail ascends through the Paiya La Pass crossing over towards Surke. Continuing on, the trail the journey takes us through forested landscapes leading to the hamlet of Chheplung. Alongside the banks of Dudh Koshi River, the journey continues towards Chauri Kharka. Beyond the pasturelands, the trail is adorned with Chortens and prayer flags reaching Phakding.

  • Our first day on the classic Everest trail, today, we journey to the famed town of Namche Bazaar. Heading out of Phakding the trail follows the pleasant forest landscapes heading for the hamlets of Monjo and Jorsalle. Hereon, the entire trek continues through the Sagarmatha National Park. With the beautiful views of Thamserku (6,623m) on the horizon, the journey continues past the several settlements reaching Namche Bazaar.

  • Namche Bazaar is often the crossing point for trekkers and locals heading in and out of Everest region. The region is always buzzing with people and is the perfect place to acclimatize. For our acclimatization, we make our way to the hamlets of Khumjung and Khunde. The popular alternative to this trek is the one heading to Everest View Hotel which is well known for the wide Himalayan panorama including Mt. Everest (8,848m).

  • Ascending through the Khumbu region the journey today takes us to the hamlet of Tengboche. Making our way out of Namche, we ascend to the viewpoint of Phunki Thanga. Further ahead, the trail descends towards the stunning Dudh Koshi River. As the distinct figure of Ama Dablam (6,856m) covers the skyline, the journey comes to a close reaching Tengboche. Tengboche is home to the Dawa Choling Monastery famed as one of the oldest monasteries of the region.

  • One of the more challenging days when it comes to the altitude the journey, today, makes its way to the hamlet of Dingboche. Heading out of Dingboche, the Himalayan trail ascends towards Debuche adorned by Mani walls and Chortens. Crossing the Imja Khola, the trail ascends towards Pangboche which is well known for its views of Ama Dablam (6,856m). The final stretch of the journey takes us beyond the confluence of Imja Khola and Lobuche River to the hamlet of Dingboche.

  • The final of our acclimatization days, today, we take a day off in Dingboche. Familiarizing ourselves with the local culture, we also ensure that our bodies are well adapted to the growing altitudes. For our acclimatization hike, we take on the Dingboche Ri (5,075m) which offers stunning views of Lobuche East (6119m), Kangtega (6685m), Taboche Peak (6367m), and Ama Dablam (6856m). Ascending through the valley of Imja Tse towards the Chukung region, we arrive at Dingboche.

  • Heading out of Dingboche, the trail heads in between the summits of Taboche Peak (6,367m) and Cholatse (6,335m) to Dughla. Reaching Pheriche, we continue our journey ascending towards Chupki Lahara. Through the glacial moraines of Khumbu Glacier, the steep trail continues to ascend reaching the hamlet of Lobuche. The hamlet boasts stunning views of Khumbutse (6,665m), Mahalangur (7,590m), Lingtren (6,749m), and Pumo Ri (7,165m).

  • One of the longer and the most memorable days of our journey, today, we make our way to the Everest Base Camp. Heading out of Lobuche, the trail ascends through the memorial cairns honoring the Sherpas who lost their lives in the Himalayas. Beyond the memorial cairns, the trail ascends steeply right to the foot of the world’s tallest mountain. Overlooking the Himalayas is the Everest Base Camp surrounded by massive Himalaya’s wand Khumbu Glacier. Taking in the thrill and the mesmerizing views of the region, we make our way down towards Gorakshep.

  • An early day and equally memorable to yesterday if not more. Today, we make our way towards the viewpoint of Kalapatthar which boasts the most mesmerizing Himalayan sunrise over the world’s tallest Himalayas. Drenched golden in the morning rays of the sun are the summits of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Nuptse (7,861m), Changtse (7,543m), Lhotse (8,414m), Ama Dablam (6,856m), and Lingtren (6,749m). Enjoying the sunrise, we begin our descending journey heading towards Gorakshep. From here, we descend back to Pheriche crossing Lobuche en route.

  • Leaving behind the desolate snowy landscapes the journey reaches the vibrant hamlet of Dingboche. Through the lush green fields, the journey continues down the valley reaching Pangboche and then onto the hamlet of Tengboche where we stop for a brief rest. Picking up on the trail, the journey takes us back to Phunki Thanga before setting off to Namche.

  • The final day of the trek, today, we make our way to Lukla. Descending through the ending sections of the Sagarmatha National Park, we take on the terraced staircases. Reaching the hamlet of Monjo and then onto Jorsalle, we exit the national park setting off back to Phakding. The end of our journey traverses through several stunning hamlets including Bengkar and Chhuthawa reaching Lukla.

  • The day begins early as we fly back to Kathmandu taking off from the Lukla airstrip which also offers one of the most thrilling experiences on this entire trek. With a look back at the Himalayas, we head back to the hills surrounding the valley. Touching down at Kathmandu, we make our way directly to the hotel.

  • For the purpose of contingencies, we also allocate a reserve day. This is more so applicable in case of flights taking off from Lukla. Due to the location of the airstrip, bad weather disturbs the flights which can lead to cancellation of all flights for the day.

  • Our representatives will drop you back at Tribhuvan International Airport just in time for your flight back home. We hope you had a lovely time with us and we look forward to seeing you again.
