Helambu Trek Overview
This incredible trek to the Helambu Valley commences after a quick exploration of the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Kathmandu valley which comprises of Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. As you begin your trek from Sundarijal, you will pass by beautiful waterfalls and enter Shivapuri National Park. The Shivapuri National park sits north of Kathmandu and is spread in the districts of Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk.
The trail goes through the minor settlement of Mulkharka and into Chisapani. From here, the trail initially descends to Gul Bhanjyang and later into the Sherpa inhabited community of Kutumsang. As we take in the panorama of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges, we reach Thadepati. Take some time to comprehend the culture of its inhabitants and slowly make your way to Tarkeghyang.
Visit the Tarkeghyang monastery and relish at the sight of the culture of the Sherpas. Make your way through monasteries and chorten filled trails to arrive at Sermathang. The trail sees a decrease in altitude until we arrive at Melamchi Pul. After collecting our stuffs in Melamchi Pul, we shall drive back to Kathmandu where the trip shall end. This trek is doable all year round, but spring and autumn is the best time for Helambu trek.
